Restrictions for flight baggage content?

I am flying from Canada down to California but I haven't been on a plane in many years. I wont be taking a carry on so I don't have to worry about that but I need to know that the rules are for my main luggage bag. Does anyone know where I can find a list of things not allowed? Or at least some type of guidelines for packing?
