A gift for my boyfriend on Valentine's Day?

My boyfriend is an amazing poet, and he also knows good poetry when he reads it. I want to write a poem for him for Valentine's Day, but I'm no poet, and it'll probably suck... would he appreciate the effort and think it was sweet of me to try? Or do you think he'd just think it was just... well bad? I bought him another present, but I want to give him something from the heart, not just a material item. We're 17.
